The Studio is located in the Clark’s Block, which is a building that has been a part of downtown Natick since 1874. Long before the advent of shopping centers and malls, Natick center had a variety of stores, from small butchers and greengrocers to dry goods and fancy good stores. Fancy good stores featured items that are ornamental and decorative rather than essential. Appealing to taste or fancy, items or garments found in these stores helped to create a singular, personal style.
Julie has built a modern-day fancy goods studio in Natick center, helping clients find goods that appeal to their own personal sense of style. She creates one of a kind and heirloom sewn pieces, ranging from wedding dresses and formal gowns to tote bags and pillows, and a wide variety in between. This means that each and every piece is truly a custom creation. With an eye to reusing the best of the past, she often upcycles or uses vintage garments, fabrics, trims or buttons. In her custom sewing studio, Julie integrates the heirloom sewing skills taught her by sewing professionals with contemporary sewing methods, (including custom fabric creation) and creates work for modern lifestyles. Her work is a much-needed antidote to today’s throw-away culture and fast fashion.
